St. David’s has a strong tradition of choral excellence beginning with our youngest singers. We have three choirs that make up the Children’s and Youth Choirs: The Cherub Choir, The Middle Choir, and Joyful Noise. All three choirs focus on the fundamentals of reading music and healthy vocal technique. Choristers also get to experience the liturgy of the Episcopal Church and lead worship in a variety of services. Every child, regardless of musical ability, is invited to be in one of these ensembles.
Virtual Choir Camp | June 1-5, 2020
To celebrate the first week of summer vacations, children and youth are invited to a Virtual Choir Camp. We will learn and record By the Rivers of Babylon, to present in worship as a virtual choir in a future week. All children and youth (ages 5-18) are invited regardless of past choir participation. To sign up contact Mark Wischkaemper.
Children in kindergarten through second grade meet in Bethell Hall (on the 3rd floor) with Maureen Papovich for music education through fun and games, in preparation for singing with the Middler and Youth Choirs at various Sunday services.
3rd through 5th graders meet in the Choir Room (on the 3rd floor) with Kelsey Kimble to learn songs for worship, beginning music literacy and solfege, and introduction to Orff instruments. Middlers sing for Sunday services in various combinations with Cherub and Youth Choirs.
Joyful Noise is a youth choir for 6th through 12th grade students. We rehearse in the choir room (on the 3rd floor) with Mary Ashton. Joyful Noise serves St. David’s in a variety of worship services, leading the congregation in hymns and service music, and singing their prepared anthems. Youth also have the opportunity to lead and mentor younger singers. In addition, they have the opportunity to sing with (and learn from) the adult choirs in more challenging choral works. Joyful Noise meets on Sundays from 12:45-2 p.m.
