The Hospitality Ministries at St. David’s is the Café Divine kitchen, Holy Grounds Coffee Shop, Books and Gifts, The Space event planning services. We also have developed an online ordering ministry we call Curbside that offers items from Café Divine and Holy Grounds.
Our Hospitality Ministries serve both our St. David’s and greater Austin communities by creating places to gather. We offer food and beverage services as well as a wide variety of meeting immunities for groups both large and small. We are focused on building long term relationships with those we serve with a goal to always exceed expectations.
Café Divine prepares and serves meals for many St. David’s events, including Sunday breakfast, Wednesday dinner, Thursday public lunch, as well as a multitude of St. David’s ministries.
Café Divine has provided food service for St. David’s since 1998, when Chef Ray Trono was hired to oversee the hospitality ministry. Chef Ray is a graduate of the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park, New York. Chef Ray is joined by Chef Mark Shevlin, a graduate of San Francisco’s California Culinary Institute, and Edmundo Diaz prep/dish washer to round out the Café Divine kitchen team. Along with countless volunteers and a hospitality-focused staff that includes Manager of Holy Grounds Taylor Cloyd and Director of The Space at St. David’s Ken Spivey, we strive to put love, passion, and creativity into everything we do.
Our team also works withThe Space at St. David on catered events and with Holy Grounds keeping them supplied with soups, sandwiches, and other delicious foods.
We support The Central Texas Food Bank with monthly monetary donations generated by tips collected from curbside food sales. Café Divine supports downtown Austin’s homeless neighbors with a Saturday Outreach Ministry preparing and serving a bagged lunch as well as working with St. David’s Trinity Center, who also caters to the local homeless population.
We share the belief that community is everything and we do what we can to foster authentic relationships and positive change through tasty food, kind service, and forward thinking.
Holy Grounds is a cafe and gift store located in the heart of downtown Austin. Our full espresso bar serves fair-trade, organic coffee from Texas Coffee Traders. We support local artists, green products, and the fair-trade movement. We love being a part of the St. David’s hospitality ministry and serving our community.
Our staff of trained baristas, and Manager Taylor Cloyd, are devoted to representing our brand’s mission to be a haven in downtown Austin, where commuters and parishioners can feel warm, invited, and a part of a community. The Holy Grounds team provides the friendliest customer service in Austin. We care about our customers and strive to make them feel at home in our store. You will find nothing but smiles, kindness, and a delicious drink menu at Holy Grounds.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, our physical store is still closed to the public, but the Holy Grounds online shop is up and running for anyone who needs coffee or a special gift. You will find cards, books, and a variety of themed gifts like House and Home, Bath and Body, and all about Austin, Texas. If you would like to see a few Holy Grounds gifts in person, we have a curated selection at The Next-to-New Shop on Burnet Road. Learn more about us, see our menu, and order online by visiting our website. We hope to serve you soon!
The Space at St. David’s is a new addition to the St. David’s Family. Though events at St. David’s, as a part of the hospitality ministry, have been around for years, The Space at St. David’s has launched itself into an atmosphere all its own with the help of Director Ken Spivey.
The Space at St. David’s is home to events like SXSW, Texas Tribune Festival, Austin Film festival, and also caters to NetSpend, EON, and the City of Austin. Non-Profits like Todos Juntos and Camp Fire Girls utilize The Space at St. David’s for their important yearly events.
As a part of the hospitality ministry, Ken Spivey is the go-to event professional for St. David’s events like our parish picnic, Trinity Center fundraisers, and Eckhardt Mission Series.
Like so many, the events industry has been hit significantly by the rise of COVID-19. The Space at St. David’s has suspended all in-person events until we are safely within stage two parameters, at which time, groups of 25 or less may begin to meet. We are starting to book larger events for the Autumn of 2021.
