Pilgrimage

The St. David’s community has a tradition of enriching our faith journeys through pilgrimage.

  • Response to Supreme Court Decision

    Dear friends,

I write this while I, along with many of you, absorb and process the Supreme Court decision released today in the case of Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The court has overturned the constitutional right to abortion that was recognized in the 1973 case Roe v. Wade.

My mind is filled with all the “what now” questions that are posited on every news and social media source today. The implications are long, and we will need to spend time together addressing the ethical, moral, and social implications of it all, as we continue to respect the dignity of every person. Conversations are underway now to plan opportunities in the coming weeks for us to learn together and to absorb this decision as a Christian community. Look for more information about those plans soon.

We’ve started this webpage with well-articulated teachings of The Episcopal Church and a summary of General Convention resolutions on abortion and women’s reproductive health. They will help guide our conversations and actions as we move forward.

Today, however, my heart is desperate to say something else. I want to say something particularly to all the girls and women who might read this statement. God loves you. Your church loves you. Your clergy loves you. I love you. We see you. We see you as someone who is wonderfully made in God’s image. We are filled with awe and respect for you just as you are, and we trust you. We believe that you, along with your own support systems, are able to make trustworthy decisions about your own health and well-being.

And if it’s helpful, we can be part of that support system. Please know that if you find yourself in the incredibly difficult situation of an unexpected or complicated pregnancy, you are not alone. Reach out to us. We may not practice medicine or law, but we will walk the Way of Love with you. We will offer prayer, love, and support and a community where you are seen, heard, known, accepted, and loved, as a beloved child of God.

    Peace,

    The Rev. Dr. Chuck Treadwell
    Rector, St. David’s Episcopal Church
