St. David’s is a diverse worshiping community of believers, unified in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to receive and share God’s love, hope, joy, vitality, and vision as we serve others.

Our historic church has transformed our community since services were first held in 1848. St. David’s is the oldest standing church in Austin and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Our earliest parishioners worshiped together amid high tensions leading up to the Civil War.

We are most grateful for the enduring legacy and rich, complex history of this parish. As we continue to watch the downtown landscape change dramatically around us, our parish remains a constant beacon of hope.

It has been a blessing that our church has served as the “Light on the Hill” – a welcoming home for our families, our children, and our neighbors. In 2018, we launched a $5,000,0000 campaign to renovate our beloved church to honor our legacy and prepare our parish for future generations. Through the generosity and commitment of our congregation, we surpassed our preliminary goal and raised more than $5,300,000.

Due to significant global increase in material and labor costs and unexpected delays as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, our community now needs to raise an additional $1,000,000 to fully renovate our church as we planned in 2018.

We are so grateful for the generosity that allowed us to exceed our initial campaign goal. We recently upgraded our elevator and partially restored our bell, and we are now ready to tackle the remaining projects. As we move forward with our plan, necessary repairs now require additional funding to cover the surge in construction and labor costs, which have skyrocketed in Austin by 15%-20% in the past year.

To close the gap in funding, we are launching a mini capital campaign to raise the additional needed $1,000,000.

With this effort, some parishioners will feel the transformative experience of generosity for the first time, and others will be inspired to increase their campaign commitment while continuing to support our annual campaign. Most importantly, it will enable new members and first-time donors to engage more fully and deeply in parish life.

It is our responsibility to care for our church so we can worship and spread God’s love in a physically safe environment and continue to allow our children and grandchildren to play under the majestic live oak tree in the courtyard. With God’s grace and our faithful congregation, we will renovate our beautiful church and continue to serve God and our community in Austin.

We invite everyone to prayerfully consider their participation in the renovation of our historic church by Commitment Sunday on June 26. The devoted and faithful support of the St. David’s community has been a constant throughout our history. Thank you, in advance, for your contribution to keep St. David’s shining as the Light on the Hill in downtown Austin for generations to come.

Most Holy and Gracious God, we thank you for the love and care you continuously pour out upon the world, and upon the people of St. David’s Church. You have sustained us through the various changes and chances of this life for 175 years. Open our eyes to see your hand at work in the world around us. Inspire us to share the generosity we received from you, ensuring that St. David’s will continue to be a place where people can seek and serve you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.
