Aug. 22 | St. David’s During the Civil War

Sunday, Aug. 22, 10 a.m. in Crail C and livestreamed. Presented by Dr. Laura Hernandez-Ehrisman. This lecture will discuss what happened after the Rev. Edward Fontaine resigned, and the Rev. Charles Gillette took over as the second rector of what was now called St. David’s Episcopal Church. Gillette was rector during most of the Civil War, and came into conflict with Bishop Alexander Gregg frequently during his time at St. David’s. This is a follow-up the material discussed in the “Two Reverend Fontaines lecture from July, and discusses how St. David’s played an important part in the broader conflict of the national Episcopal Church during the Civil War.
